10-Day Morocco Itinerary for a First Visit

A balanced 10-day Morocco itinerary connecting Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara Desert and Marrakech.

A 10-day Morocco itinerary is long enough to connect the country’s imperial history, Rif Mountain scenery, Sahara dunes and Marrakech without turning every day into a transfer. The route below works especially well for a first arrival in Casablanca and departure from Marrakech.

Days 1–2: Casablanca, Rabat and Chefchaouen

Begin with an airport welcome in Casablanca and continue toward Rabat. Morocco’s capital provides a calm introduction through the Kasbah of the Udayas, Hassan Tower and Atlantic light. On day two, travel north into the Rif Mountains and spend the evening in Chefchaouen.

Days 3–4: Volubilis and Fes

Leave Chefchaouen after a quiet morning and visit the Roman archaeological site at Volubilis before reaching Fes. A full guided day in Fes el-Bali helps make sense of the medina’s lanes, madrasas, food markets and specialist craft quarters.

Days 5–6: Middle Atlas and Sahara Desert

Cross the Middle Atlas through Ifrane, cedar country and the Ziz Valley. Spend the first night near Merzouga, then use the following day for the dune region, local music and a camel trek to a desert camp. Two nights around Merzouga feel much less rushed than arriving and leaving immediately.

Days 7–8: Todra, Dades and Aït Ben Haddou

Travel west through oasis towns to Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley. The next day follows the Valley of Roses, Ouarzazate and the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Ben Haddou before crossing the High Atlas to Marrakech.

Days 9–10: Marrakech

Use one day with a licensed local guide to explore palaces, historic quarters and artisan workshops. Keep the final morning flexible for a garden, shopping or a relaxed breakfast before departure.

How to improve the route

If you have twelve days, add a second Chefchaouen night and a free day in Marrakech. If you have only eight days, focus on Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech rather than squeezing in every northern stop. Compare the full 10-day Morocco tour from Casablanca and ask us to adapt it around your flights.
